About Us

The History of the North American Periodical (HNAP) is a collaborative, interdisciplinary project highlighting the study of print culture, book history, and the history of journalism. The project contributes to the study of newspapers, magazines, and other periodicals of all kinds published in North America from the seventeenth century to the present. It seeks to unite scholars from a range of fields like history, literature, journalism, women’s and gender studies, communications, digital studies, religion, education, and the sciences. It also welcomes working professionals who are interested in the history of the production and consumption of periodicals. Future programs and publications will be announced.
